ENL Students Going to College!
The Brooklyn South Division of ELLs wanted to highlight and recognize the efforts of Marilyn Jeffries, ENL teacher at 22K014, in exposing middle school students to college by coordinating a visit to Columbia University. As we know, the Chancellor is looking at College and Career Readiness from k-12 and thus we should expose all of our students including our ELLs to opportunities which will get them excited and ready about life after HS.  On Thursday, June 2nd ENL students at 22K014 attended a trip to Columbia University as a follow-up to the school's College& Career Week. At the university, the students received an informational session that explained the admissions process, financial aid process, academic programs offered and residence life. Students also received a guided tour of the university. Marilyn expressed the following, "We hope that taking our middle school students to an institution of post secondary education will help them to begin considering a future beyond high school and envisioning the lifelong benefits of a college education. Overall, the day was very successful and the students left the campus motivated and empowered for their future as college students."
